REMBE safety experts impress exhibition visitors in Frankfurt
In addition to numerous new products and innovations, the REMBE team surprised visitors to the world’s largest chemical exhibition with a world première. For the first time, an explosion was triggered by pure muscle power. The predestined candidate for this mission was REMBE brand ambassador and multiple Olympic medallist Robert Förstemann. Förstemann is a track cyclist and sprinter and, with his 80cm thigh circumference, has enough strength to pedal for 60 seconds at more than 600 watts on an ergometer. The energy generated was enough to cause a bursting disc to burst. The spectacle thrilled several thousand exhibition visitors from all over the world. Especially impressed is CEO Stefan Penno by his young and dynamic team at the exhibition stand: ”Everyone here didn’t just do their best, they gave their all and that leaves a very, very good impression on our visitors and customers.” The Brilon-based company expects that the order books will continue to fill up after the exhibition and that all the hard work will pay off.

50 years of REMBE – with empathy and heart, at any time and worldwide
After fifty years of business, people often look back at the history, at old pictures, brochures and reports. But in REMBE’s anniversary year things are different... Because here (today just as 50 years ago) it is the people who shape the corporate spirit and make REMBE what it is today. Stefan Penno, Chief Executive Officer REMBE GmbH Safety+Control explains: ”We trust each other, see the best in people and believe in each person’s individual strengths. Because humans are what matters to us.” Bernhard Penno founded the company in 1973 as a sales office for rupture discs – initially as a one-man business in his garage at home. Just a few years later, new rupture disc designs were being manufactured in the company’s first production hall. In 2005, Stefan Penno, the son of the company founder, took the reins of the business. Today, REMBE employs 340 ”RFM” (REMBE family members) in over 90 countries and with 10 subsidiaries. To mark its anniversary year, REMBE has come up with some ”special activities”. This year’s celebrations are entirely in keeping with the above motto. They will start with an international

Certified weather resistance of explosion vents
The globally increasing environmental influences and weather extremes prompted REMBE engineers to test the protective effect of REMBE explosion vents also against weather-related water and air permeability. Particularly in plants and processes with high demands on water and air tightness, explosion vents that are directly exposed to weather conditions due to their installation position often represent a potential point of entry and thus a hazard for the bulk materials themselves. REMBE therefore applies what is legally required for construction elements such as windows and doors to the various explosion vents in the explosion protection area. Within the framework of large-scale weather simulations, the REMBE explosion vent types ODV, EDP, EGV-HYP, as well as the new vent duct cover KAD-LIC have been tested for their properties of air permeability, watertightness and their resistance to wind load. BS EN 14351-1, the product standard for windows and doors, served as the basis and classification. Impressive weather resistance The results of the weathering test are extremely impressive. A comparison of the test results with real weather conditions shows that storms with

Quite fast. Active Explosion isolation with Q-Bic
Explosion isolation is absolutely essential for comprehensive explosion protection. Without isolation, an explosion safety concept is not only incomplete, but is also a waste of money for operators as: In almost every production facility, individual plant components are interconnected by means of pipelines. The purpose of explosion isolation is to seal these pipelines in the event of an explosion to prevent the propagation of pressure and flames, thereby protecting the adjacent plant components. Precompression and flame jet ignition increase the severity of the explosion in the connected vessels. This leads to secondary explosions that can cause even more catastrophic damage.Isolation systems prevent an explosion from propagating, thereby reducing the effects of the explosion to a minimum. Adjacent system components are optimally protected. Explosion Isolation System Q-Bic The explosion isolation system Q-Bic registers the emerging explosion and extinguishes the developing explosion flames within milliseconds by applying the extinguishing powder. The extinguishing powder is optimally distributed in the pipeline via a nozzle system and guarantees reliable isolation.

Explosion Prevention with GSME and HOTSPOT detector
With the GSME and HOTSPOT detectors from REMBE, an artificial intelligence has been created that detects fire and explosion events at an early stage. The GSME detector is an artificial nose, ”trained” for pyrolysis - popularly known as smoldering gases, while the HOTSPOT detector represents an artificial eye that already detects surface temperature changes of 1 ° C. REMBE´s HOTSPOT X20 measures surface temperatures using an intelligent evaluation system, which divides the field of view into detection zones. A separate temperature threshold value can be set for each individual zone in order to tailor the detection to the process as far as possible. The HOTSPOT X20 can even identify small temperature increases (1°C) and enables to warn the operator of a fire or glowing embers at extremely early stages. The HOTSPOT X20 can also be used in explosion atmosphere up to zone 20 and under high dust loads and monitors a temperature range in the standard version of 0-200°C (higher temperatures possible, but typically not required). Mainly hydrocarbon compounds are released when many substances thermally decompose.

Explosion prevention in new spheres - Inside the cockpit of CO.Pilot
The topic of “explosion safety” is omnipresent for plant operators and OEM´s when it comes to handling or transporting combustible dusts. Despite the widespread assumption that an increased risk of explosion only exists for gases, enormous forces can also be released by explosive dust- / air mixtures. To help minimise the risk of explosions when handing combustible dusts, it is important to understand the requirements for an explosion and the respective dust safety characteristics, which are described below. The following picture shows the fire triangle and the explosion pentagon which must be taken into account. The following conditions must exist for an explosion to occur within a production facility or machine. If any one of the aforementioned prerequisites is eliminated, explosion prevention has intrinsically been practised. However, if this is not possible at all times and in all operating states, explosion hazards will still be present. In this case, it is necessary to divide any potentially explosive atmospheres into zones and systematically apply safety measures. Drying processes in

REMBE Safety Days Digital Home Edition Success event continues via video conference
REMBE Safety Days Digital Home Edition
Success event continues via video conference In recent years, the ‘REMBE Safety Days’ series of events has repeatedly made Brilon a meeting place for global explosion safety and process safety. The content of the events was to present and discuss current topics in these areas as well as to create a platform for networking. In November 2019, 150 participants from five continents were welcomed to the Sauerland region. Unfortunately, no live events can take place due to the current situation. In order to nevertheless enable such an important exchange of knowledge, REMBE is offering a digital version of the REMBE Safety Days. Safety is essential – especially in difficult times like this. REMBE has launched the ‘REMBE Safety Days - Digital Home Edition’ to enable experts to continue to exchange their experience in the field of safety technology. “We are proud to be able to provide a platform like this,” says Claire Lloyd (Team Leader Process Safety Europe and one of the speakers at the REMBE Safety Days

Explosion Safety in recycling plants Immark is exploring new horizons
Explosion Safety in recycling plants
Immark is exploring new horizons Everyone is talking about Explosion Safety and the associated effects in conventional production plants. It’s also an important issue in other areas. One of them is the recycling industry where, during the separation, shredding and processing of combustible materials explosion-prone dusts are created. The Immark AG developed a new recycling plant, which was recently awarded the 2017 Swiss Recycling Award. By using this system, it is possible to avoid the incineration of the complete cartridges, if the toner cartridges are delivered to Immark AG. The new Immark AG (Switzerland) toner recycling plant has a processing capacity of 1500 tonnes per year, and is therefore capable of recycling the toner cartridges of the entire Swiss market. The biggest challenge in the development of the new system was managing the potential for dust explosions, caused by airborne dust particles. In order to avoid an explosion, an inert agent has been used which is constantly introduced
