Sesotec FLAKE SCAN material analysis system

A win-win situation: Sesotec FLAKE SCAN material analysis system at the Polymers Center of Excellence

Schönberg, November 2021

The Polymers Center of Excellence is a not-for-profit organization established by the State of North Carolina to increase knowledge, provide technical support, and assist companies in the plastics industry. The center is equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and offers opportunities to collaborate with experts of the plastics industry. The goal of the center is to help optimize products and processes.

Sesotec GmbH, a leading global provider of technologies and services for foreign object detection, material sorting and analysis, has provided the Polymers Center of Excellence with a FLAKE SCAN material analyzer. This system is capable of efficiently and accurately analyzing plastic flakes and regrind to determine their material composition and quality. Within minutes, FLAKE SCAN evaluates the types of plastics present (e.g. PET, PP, HDPE, or mixed plastic flakes), their colors, and whether they are contaminated with metals. The FLAKE SCAN analysis system delivers data that can be immediately leveraged to make decisions about whether plastic flakes and regrind are pure enough for profitable use. Furthermore, the results provide valuable insights into the recycling process and the functionality of the various components in use.

For Sesotec, this collaboration with the Polymers Center of Excellence helps to establish contact with customers who use the facilities to test the latest technologies in search of the best solutions for their processes.

To this point, Nikolas Wolf, Sesotec’s Regional Sales Manager for Sorting and Recycling in America, emphasizes: “It was a strategic decision to provide the Polymers Center of Excellence with a FLAKE SCAN material analysis system. The entire process chain is faced with mounting calls for a circular economy, and companies in the plastics industry are having to invest in optimizing their value creation. Their are manifold possibilities for manufacturing, processing and recycling demonstrated at the Polymers Center of Excellence. Their valuable work and support benefits

Sesotec by opening the door to potential new customers. Especially in the case of FLAKE SCAN, we have been extremely happy with the response.”

Technical Associate at the Polymers Center of Excellence Bill Murphy adds: “Our motivation is helping customers meet their challenges. The Polymers Center of Excellence provides a valuable platform to test all technical possibilities for manufacturing, processing, and recycling plastics. The results help boost efficiency, profitability, and sustainability. We use the Sesotec FLAKE SCAN material analysis system to test customer-specified quality requirements for the color, material, and sorting purity of polymers. The bottom line is that this is a win-win situation for both the Polymers Center of Excellence and Sesotec.”

Sesotec GmbH has been a market leader in the field of contaminant removal and sorting technology for more than 45 years.
