Let’s talk: New video series from Hosokawa Alpine providing insights into the future of battery technology

Talking together and peering into the future – that’s what the new ’Let’s talk’ video series from Hosokawa Alpine is all about. The Augsburg-based machine and plant manufacturer, which specialises in mechanical process engineering and blown film extrusion, is hosting short panel discussions with industry and research experts on current and future-oriented topics relevant to the industry.

Talk show on battery technology

How can manufacturers scale their battery production? Are there alternatives to lithium-ion batteries? And how can battery manufacturers recycle production waste during the manufacturing process? In the first series of three episodes, the experts address these questions on battery technology. Just like on an actual TV talk show, they sit together and casually chat about the topics in these 15-minute videos. They examine the issues from a variety of angles, but viewers themselves can draw their own conclusions from the talks. ”With ’Let’s talk’, we primarily want to offer viewers interesting content. It makes no difference to us whether they are scientists, battery manufacturers or students. Anyone who is curious about battery technology will definitely gain deeper insights into this subject area here,” explains Jan Miethke, Head of Marketing Brand & Strategy at Hosokawa Alpine. The talks are led by presenter Dorothee Gelmar with professionalism and charm.

Starting with three episodes

The first episode of ’’Let’s talk’ – ’Scaling of the active battery raw materials business’ was published on Hosokawa Alpine’s YouTube channel and website in September 2024. Experts Dr Nico Zobel (Division Manager Service, Products & Cathode Material, IBU-tec advanced materials AG), Kurt Belmans (Global Application Manager Battery Materials, Bühler Group) and Michael Krammer (Team Manager Sales, Hosokawa Alpine) discuss how battery manufacturers are taking their battery production from laboratory to production scale.
Additional episodes on the topics ’What are the future battery materials?’ and ’Direct scrap recycling: How to make battery production more efficient” will be published in the same location in the months ahead.

And Hosokawa Alpine is already thinking further into the future: ’Battery technology is not the only pioneering topic we are working on. From alternative proteins to post-consumer recycling: With ”Let’s talk”, we want to take a look into the future together with experts and viewers,’ says Miethke.

Hosokawa Alpine Blueserv + Rico Sicherheitstechnik = It works
Hosokawa Alpine, and Swiss company Rico Sicherheitstechnik are cooperating in terms of service provision, to offer a complete service for pressure shock-resistant systems Blueserv, the service brand of Augsburg-based machine and plant manufacturer Hosokawa Alpine, and Swiss company Rico Sicherheitstechnik are cooperating in terms of service provision, as the central focus of both companies is on customer needs. The service specialists from Blueserv are trained and certified by Rico. Only then may the legally prescribed and mandatory annual service work be carried out on the Rico Ventex® explosion protection valves. This is the only way to guarantee safety in and around the system. Complete service for pressure shock-resistant systems The durable explosion protection valves from Rico Sicherheitstechnik have been installed in the pressure shock resistant powder processing systems from Hosokawa Alpine for a long time now. In the past, customers had two contacts for service matters: Blueserv and Rico. The new co-operation between the two companies will simplify this process: The Rico Ventex® explosion protection valves can now also

Direct recycling of production waste of Lithium-ion batteries
The machine and plant manufacturer Hosokawa Alpine has developed a process that can be used to recycle material scrap created in the production of lithium-ion batteries directly by the battery manufacturer. From consumer electronics to electromobility: The demand for lithium-ion batteries is steadily increasing. But increased battery production also leads to a greater number of rejects during the manufacturing process. This arises, for example, when sorting out defects such as pinholes, inclusions and other coating faults, due to edge trimming or rejects during the finishing process. In total, about 10% (or considerably more depending on the process) of the coated cathode or anode films end up as rejects and have to be recycled. In particular, the valuable active materials, i.e. the NMC or LFP of the cathode films or the graphite-silicon mixtures of the anode films, should be processed and directly recycled free of impurities. Direct recycling ensures efficient production In order to be able to recycle cathode and anode film scrap during production, Hosokawa Alpine has developed a range of solutions. ”Direct recycling means that rejects can be recycled at the production
