POWER UP with smart Level Measurement Solutions
One of India’s largest energy suppliers equipped its coal handling processes with suitable level measurement technology to optimize the whole power plant flow. How to equip the lifeline of the power plant In addition to natural gas, oil and nuclear power, coal is a major factor in the generation of electrical power. In line with the rapid development of the economy and of technology we have a continuously growing demand for electricity as mankind invents computers, intelligent home appliances, electric cars, intelligent robots and many more products that use electricity. Still rising consumption e.g. in China, India and the United States could bring global coal-fired power demand to a new all-time high. The requirements for electric power equipment are increasing: the need for them to be safe and reliable, with high availability, easy to install, no leakage, maintenance-free and to meet the requirements for environmental protection. End of last year a big coal-fired power plant, located in Kharagpur, West Bengal, was looking for uncomplicated, high-performing and absolutely reliable measurement technology at an affordable

Elevator handling recycled asphalt planings
Elevator design for recycled asphalt planings (RAP). Recommending speed, power, shaft & casing sizes, and component specs (SPS steel buckets & NBR belting) Challenge Asphalt is made from a mixture of aggregates, binder and filler, and is commonly used in constructing and maintaining roads surfaces. When the surface layer of tarmacked areas is removed, the resulting waste material known as planings, can be recycled and reused. BG Europa Ltd approached 4B Braime requesting technical advice on the manufacture of a new bucket & belt elevator to be installed at an Asphalt plant in South Wales. Although familiar with bucket & chain elevators, the customer had no technical experience with buckets & belts so requested the expertise of 4B Engineers. The bucket elevator would elevate RAP (Recycled Asphalt Planings), and use a belt instead of chain, and standard 4B pressed buckets instead of fabricated buckets commonly used in the construction industry. 4B Braime were asked to provide a design proposal detailing suitable speed, power requirements, shaft & casing sizes, and component specifications to achieve the desired

Upgrade of level monitoring system in grain storage
A large grain storage facility in the south of England required a reliable content measuring device to replace an old acoustic wave system which was no longer functioning. Non-contact continuous level measurement UWT (UK) Limited proposed the use of the free-radiating radar NivoRadar® NR 3100 which could be supplied with an aiming flange. The integrated aiming flange allowed the radar to be mounted in the same position as the previous acoustic wave device which was close to the silo side wall and which allowed for the narrow 4˚ beam to be aimed towards the lowest point of the silo. This saved the customer time and money as they didn’t need to move the mounting position towards the centre of the silo where the silo was filled from. Bring the levels to where the planner needs them The visualising system that the customer had been using previously was very basic and limited and did not allow them to display the contents in any other way than the level of the material. The customer required the contents of the silo to be displayed in tonnes or percentage of fill. The NivoTec® NT 4600 with cabinet mounted digital display fulfilled

Crushing, disposal and compaction of PET bottles
By using the HSM PET Crusher 1049 SA, the volume of PET bottles can be reduced to around 25 or 30 percent of their original size. 500 billion PET bottles are produced each year around the world. The production of 1 kg of PET bottles requires 1.9 kg of crude oil. In the light of this figure, the recycling of used PET bottles is becoming more relevant than ever. More than 90% of all PET bottles produced are single-use bottles. Because PET is fully recyclable, PET is a key element in the reusable material cycle for the production, for instance, of fibres for textile production, film, packaging tapes and even furniture. HSM rose to this challenge some years ago and has been using its expertise in the environmental industry to develop customised solutions for the effective recycling of PET bottles. The HSM PET Crusher is an effective system for compacting PET bottles and cans to around 1/3 or even 1/4 of their original volume. The cutting units can also be used in combination with deposit return machines. The sophisticated technology of the HSM PET Crusher The crusher rollers are made from a
