Optimization of plastics production at Viet UC Mechanics Polymer Co.
Improvements in product quality, customer confidence and processes
Schönberg, December 2024
Viet UC Mechanics Polymer Co, Ltd. is a leading manufacturer of plastic materials in Vietnam, specializing in the production of masterbatch, plastic additives, pigments, PVC additives and plastic resins. With many years of experience and a deep understanding of the color industry, the company meets the needs of a wide range of customers, whose mission is to raise the global standard of the plastics industry and continuously increase the value of plastic products. Viet UC’s products are used in various industries, especially in residential construction, where plastics play an essential role in everything from flooring to insulation.
Product quality and production efficiency
Viet UC faced the challenge of removing metallic impurities in the masterbatch* to prevent particles from entering the plastic mixtures during production. These impurities could not only affect the quality of the end product, but also lead to machine downtime and customer complaints. To ensure the quality and purity of their products, it was necessary to find a reliable metal separator that was sensitive enough to detect and remove even the smallest metallic particles (ferrous 0.39 mm, non-ferrous 0.5 mm, stainless steel 0.5 mm). They also had to ensure that the solution would work effectively even with challenging product effects such as dark colors, especially with black masterbatch.
Reliable and precise metal separation
After a thorough market analysis, Viet UC decided to implement the RAPID VARIO metal separator from Sesotec. The RAPID VARIO was specially developed to detect and separate out metallic contaminants in bulk materials, even if they are deeply embedded in the product. The unit is characterized by high sensitivity, easy integration into existing production lines and reliable performance. Sesotec’s solution included a function that can be set automatically or manually to react to various product effects such as electrical conductivity and color variations (e.g. black material).
Sensitive and precise
In the plastics industry, the masterbatch can contribute to the product effect, as some additives or fillers can make it difficult to detect metal impurities or influence the detector. Metal detectors and separators, such as the RAPID VARIO, are designed to be sensitive enough to detect metal impurities while compensating for the product effect as much as possible.
These systems were installed at Viet UC prior to filling into 25 kg bags to ensure consistent metal-free products. The first unit was installed in September 2023, followed by a second unit in May 2024.
Improvements on multiple fronts
The implementation of the RAPID VARIO metal separator has paid off for Viet UC in many ways, especially because the company places great emphasis on quality assurance.
Firstly, product quality has improved significantly, resulting in increased customer satisfaction. Returns and complaints due to metal contamination are a thing of the past. In addition, potential machine damage and expensive production downtime could be avoided thanks to the reliable detection and rejection of metal particles.
Viet UC plans to continue investing in recycled materials such as PP and HDPE and to use Sesotec equipment to test these new product lines as well. This partnership with Sesotec supports the company’s vision to expand globally and meet the highest quality standards. “By installing the RAPID VARIO metal detector, we have been able to significantly increase the quality of our masterbatch products. Our customers now have full confidence in the purity of our deliveries. Sesotec has helped us not only to optimize our internal processes, but also to improve our reputation with end customers.” Says Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, Technical Manager at Viet UC Mechanics Polymer Co., Ltd.
In summary, Sesotec’s solution has not only optimized Viet UC’s production processes, but also brought long-term benefits to the business and customer relationships.
